Founder Story
Hi, I’m Leoni, the founder of Legumia. My passion for food led me to take inspiration from tofu and reimagine it using legumes like lentils, chickpeas, and beans. My mission is to make sustainable, health-conscious eating more exciting and accessible for everyone.
I became fascinated with the science of food and went on to study process and food technology to turn that curiosity into real skills. One day, I realized there was a delicious product that hadn’t been brought to market yet, so I set out to build it myself.
Traditional tofu has earned its place as a plant-based essential, but it hasn’t changed much over the years. I was inspired by the Burmese-style method of making tofu from chickpeas through gentle cooking rather than coagulation. From there, I reimagined the process across a variety of legumes like lentils and beans, creating something entirely new that brings more variety and new flavors to plant-based eating.
Legumia’s goal is to build a new kind of plant-based food company, one that puts simplicity, affordability, and sustainability first. We’re starting small but thinking big: making it easier (and tastier) for more people to enjoy legumes every day.
FAQ
How is your tofu made?
Our products are made using a cooking method inspired by traditional Burmese tofu. Instead of soy and coagulants, we use blended legumes like lentils and chickpeas, which naturally thicken when gently cooked.
Do your products have additives or preservatives?
We don’t use artificial additives or preservatives. Instead, we rely on gentle pasteurization to keep our products fresh and safe for longer. When needed, we use only natural ingredients like lemon juice or vinegar to help extend shelf life, always keeping things as clean and simple as possible.
How should I store your products?
Since we use fresh, simple ingredients with minimal processing, our products are best kept in the fridge and enjoyed within a few days.
Are your products gluten-free?
Yes. We don’t use any gluten-containing ingredients in our recipes. However, because our products are made in a shared kitchen, we can’t guarantee they’re 100% free from traces of gluten.
Do your products contain allergens?
Our core recipes are free from common allergens like soy, nuts, and gluten. While we take care to avoid cross-contamination, please note that our products are currently made in a shared vegan kitchen where allergens might be present. Always check the label or reach out to us if you have specific concerns.
When and where can I buy your products?
We’re still in the early stages of launching. Sign up for our email list to be the first to know when and where you can try Legumia near you!
